Turkey Bacon, Onion & Cheddar Stuffed Burgers

Turkey Bacon, Onion & Cheddar Burger // Food Coach Me // Weight Loss Surgery Recipes

Sometimes a juicy hamburger patty is all you really want. Okay…fine…sometimes a juicy hamburger patty is all I really want.

I truly don’t miss eating my burgers with a bun but I do still love a stuffed burger patty. The most important part of this recipe is sticking with the lowest fat ingredients possible. Don’t skimp…be sure to buy the leanest hamburger, turkey bacon and reduced fat cheese.

There was so much flavor stuffed into these beef patties, I didn’t even use any toppings or sauces! Although you are welcome to adapt however you’d like! 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 93% lean ground beef
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper
  • 4 strips turkey bacon, finely chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup reduced fat cheddar cheese, grated
  • toppings as desired: tomato, lettuce, pickles

Instructions

  • In a bowl combine beef, garlic, hot sauce, salt & pepper and mix. Form into 8 evenly sized patties.
  • Saute onions and bacon. Place onions, bacon and cheese in a bowl and mix. Form a spoonful of bacon/cheese mixture and place in the center of 4 of the beef patties. Top each with another patty and seal the edges by pinching the meat closed.
  • Heat grill or grill pan to medium high. Cook burgers over medium-high heat, flipping once until desired doneness (about 4 minutes per side). Serve with desired toppings.

Notes

*Serving sizes on the recipes are not necessarily "bariatric sized" portions but are "traditional" portion sizes.
**Fat in this recipe is higher than my typical recommendation. This recipe is best on a more occasional basis. If sensitive to fat, use leaner ground beef (ex: 97%) if available, stay minimal with cheese and turkey bacon.
