In my book, grilling season is in fullllll swing. Yehaw! It’s burger time once again here at the Wagner house. I mentioned in my blog on Tex-Mex Burgers we would be having a Burger ‘O The Month club. Well, it’s not technically May yet…so I’m a day early. I guess that means I’ll just have to make another burger concoction later this month!

I used ground chicken for these burgers. More because it was on sale, but also because it brings a change of pace in flavor. Any lean ground meat would work. Also- I wrote on the recipe to top with BBQ sauce, but we didn’t use anymore than what was cooked in the burger patty. It was moist and delicious and didn’t need any sauce!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken (or turkey)
  • 1/2 cup grated low fat parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup low sugar barbecue sauce
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 cup 2% shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Instructions

  • Heat grill to medium high.
  • In a bowl mix ground chicken, grated parmesan cheese, 1/2 cup bbq sauce. liquid smoke and 1/2 cup mozzarella. Form into 6 patties.
  • Grill burger patties for approx 6 minutes per side or until cooked through (internal temperature 165F).
  • Top with remaining barbecue sauce and shredded mozzarella.
