Root Beer Float Ice Cream – WLS Dessert Recipe
Root Beer Float Ice Cream – WLS Dessert Recipe
Sometimes I wonder down the baking aisle just to get a glimpse at the flavors of extracts I can work with. I know what your thinking…something along the lines of “that’s not normal” is what I’m imagining. I actually walk past bags of chocolate chips and marshmallows to look at flavors of extracts.[groups_non_member group=”Premier Access”]…

Judge away but having lots of different flavors on hand in your kitchen is something you won’t regret when you need it. They have anything from Almond to Orange to Butter (weird) or the ones I’ve mentioned before like Mint or Banana.
This takes a chocolate protein shake to a chocolate banana shake…or a chocolate mint shake. A whole new level of flavor possibilities is achieved!
Usually these extracts cost about $3-4 which is something I don’t often like to spend. Especially since I’d like to have {almost} all of the flavors. But that small bottle lasts so long; a tiny drop is all you need. Less than the cost of adding bananas each time and also cuts way down on the sugar intake from the banana (if that’s something your trying to watch.)
So today’s featured extract is…you guessed it…Root Beer! I took the basic ice cream recipe I’ve been using (whipped cream, fat-free plain greek yogurt, splenda) and added a few drops of Root Beer extract. Add a few drops, try the taste, and then add more if needed. Go slow since you can’t take it back out!
I blended the mixture together with my hand blender and then used my ice cream maker. You could also pour it into a baking dish and place in the freezer, but (this part is important!) you want to set a timer for yourself to stir/scrape the sides of the dish every 30 minutes until it gets ice cream consistency.Â
If you love the taste of ice cream but are trying to keep away from sugar, I recommend the investment of the ice cream maker. The possibilities are endless!
