Lemon Garlic Tilapia – Easy WLS Recipes

Even as early as the Stage II Soft Food Diet, patients in my clinic are cleared to begin soft and flakey fish (follow your dietitians advice) and it is EXCITING to start enjoying a “real meal” again.

For those of you who are far past the early phases after surgery, an easy recipe for tilapia is always a welcomed dish in your kitchen! I love using tilapia as it’s affordable, easy to keep in my freezer and can be prepared countless ways.

This recipe uses real, simple ingredients. Lemon, garlic, salt and pepper. I used butter spray to give it a buttery flavor without excess calories from true butter. A little goes a long way but enhances the flavor.

Because tilapia is a soft and flakey fish, post-ops will notice they can eat more of it compared to a more solid protein such as chicken or beef. This isn’t a problem but don’t be concerned if you need to eat MORE fish than you would normally eat of another protein. It would be better to fill your pouch up and feel satisfied at your meal than to get hungry soon after dinner and be tempted with nighttime snacking. Textures make a huge difference after weight-loss surgery!!
