Black Raspberry Lemonade – Bariatric Mocktail
Black Raspberry Lemonade – Bariatric Mocktail
Let’s get real for a moment. It’s summer and the froofy cocktails are out the get you. Margaritas on the patio with friends. Cold beers at the lake. A glass of wine on vacation. Unfortunately, alcohol and weight loss surgery are a dangerous mix not only because of the calories but because of the increased risk of transfer addiction. Read the incredible stories of 3 amazing women who overcame transfer addiction after WLS!
ALAS – you can still enjoy MOCKTAILS (a mock, cocktail) and still enjoy the refreshing flavors and ambiance of having a cold drink on an outside patio without the alcohol!

Other disclaimers related to alcohol and WLS…
First things first: if you are a post-op patient, make sure to follow the guidelines set by your surgeon on how far post-op you need to be to have alcohol once again. All the surgeons I’ve worked with require your first 6 months after surgery to be free of alcohol.
If you are in the clear and wondering what to drink…the drinks to be weary of are:
1) Anything carbonated (no beer, no champaign and no carbonated mixers like club soda)
2) High sugar mixes like juice, margaritas, daquiris
3) Really sweet wines which are traditionally white like Moscato
The best choices are typically a dry red wine or to create your own sugar-free mixed drink. The alcohol you mix in will not be sugar-free…I’m talking what you mix it with! 🙂Â
Be cautious when you do drink as you will feel the affects of alcohol very quickly as a post-op patient. Everything absorbs much faster than it did before…alcohol included! Be sure to get all your water in for the day!
