Staying Positive
Module 11
Staying Positive
Transcript:
Let’s round out this course with a conversation about staying positive.
Obesity is a chronic disease which means it requires lifelong management. The journey isn’t ever really over. There will be days that it feels frustrating and overwhelming. Some days it won’t be hard to stay positive, while other days you may need to work harder to stay positive and be kind to yourself.
For some, using medication to manage the disease will be a long-term strategy and that’s okay. And there will be seasons in life when your ball is out of the boundaries and you need help finding motivation to throw it back in and get back in the game.
There may be Seasons when you need to schedule an appointment with a therapist that can support you in finding peace with food. You may need a Spiritual advisor or prayer group to support you as you manage the disease.
You had bariatric surgery which means you’ve utilized the best treatment option there is for managing obesity. You still have that amazing tool. You didn’t break it, it’s ready and waiting for you to utilize it again!
Because this is a lifelong journey, it also means you have a team of professionals to call when you need and a community of others that understands. I hope you stay connected here with us and utilize the resources for staying in the game. If you need help finding a bariatric program, just reach out and I’ll see how I can help.
There are days we get hard on ourselves and we all do it. You may need to surround yourself with encouraging statements or scriptures. I’ve linked some of my favorite ones below. Put them on sticky notes or your phone screen and use the power of positive thinking to get back in the game.
There are a lot of things in life we have to manage. Our homes, our schedules, our finances, and our health. We’re never going to feel like we’re doing it all perfectly. But what we can do is the next right thing. If the house feels too messy and you can’t stand it, a 20 minute pick up session can make you feel so much better. Similarly, if you feel way off track with your eating, a 20 minute planning session and ordering groceries can make you feel better. Rarely will you have time to clean your whole house, you just have to do the next thing that will help. For your health that might mean going for a walk, getting in water, visiting your doctor, or going to bed on time.
It will never be perfect, it’ll never really be over, but it’s always worthwhile.
Thank you for joining me in this course. I hope it’s been helpful for your journey. Go back and watch any of these videos whenever you need, enjoy the resources here on the site and reach out anytime.
